Standard 6-core optical fiber cable color code

For 6-core optical fiber cables, the standard TIA/EIA-598-C color sequence assigns the first six fibers the colors: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate (Gray), and White.Standard Fiber Color Sequence

The TIA/EIA-598-C standard defines a 12-color sequence for identifying individual fibers in multi-core cables. For cables with fewer than 12 fibers, such as a 6-core cable, the first six colors of this sequence are used:

  1. Blue
  2. Orange
  3. Green
  4. Brown
  5. Slate (Gray)
  6. White This sequence ensures that each fiber can be uniquely identified, reducing the risk of miswiring or splicing errors during installation or maintenance .
Application in 6-Core Cables
  • Loose-tube or breakout cables: Each fiber is individually color-coded according to the sequence above.
  • Connector and splice identification: The color of each fiber is used to match fibers correctly in connectors, patch panels, or splice trays.
  • Scalability: If additional fibers are added later, the remaining colors in the 12-color sequence (Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua) are used sequentially .
Practical Tips
  • Always verify the fiber color against the manufacturer's documentation, as some custom or hybrid cables may use alternative color schemes.
  • For small-count cables like 6-core, the first six colors are sufficient, and no stripe or additional marking is needed.
  • Using the standard color sequence simplifies troubleshooting and ensures compatibility with larger multi-fiber systems . By following this standardized color coding, technicians can quickly identify and manage fibers in 6-core optical cables, ensuring accurate splicing, termination, and network reliability.
