What colors are available for 24-core optical cables

24-core optical cables use a standardized 12-color sequence repeated for fibers 13–24, often with stripe markings to distinguish the second set.Standard Fiber Color Sequence

For 24-core cables, the first 12 fibers follow the TIA/EIA-598-C standard 12-color sequence:

  1. Blue
  2. Orange
  3. Green
  4. Brown
  5. Slate
  6. White
  7. Red
  8. Black
  9. Yellow
  10. Violet
  11. Rose
  12. Aqua The next 12 fibers (13–24) repeat the same 12-color sequence but are distinguished with stripes or markings to maintain unique identification. For example, fiber 13 is Blue with a stripe, fiber 14 is Orange with a stripe, and so on. In some designs, fiber 20 may be a natural (uncolored) fiber with a black stripe to differentiate it from the first 12 fibers (Blue through Aqua) (Wolontek, Prysmian) .
Outer Jacket and Tube Colors
  • Outer jackets can vary depending on fiber type and manufacturer. Common colors indicate fiber mode:
    • Single-mode (OS2): Yellow
    • Multimode (OM3/OM4): Aqua or Magenta/Purple
  • Buffer tubes inside the cable may also be color-coded to help identify groups of fibers. For 24-core cables, a single tube may contain all 24 fibers, or two 12-fiber tubes may be used, often with blue and orange binder threads to separate the groups (Prysmian) .
Practical Notes
  • The 12-color sequence ensures technicians can quickly identify fibers and avoid miswiring.
  • Stripe markings on fibers 13–24 are essential for high-density cables to maintain unique identification.
  • Custom jacket colors are possible for OEM or project-specific requirements, but the internal fiber color sequence typically follows the standard for consistency (Wolontek) . By following this system, 24-core optical cables maintain clear, standardized identification for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting in both indoor and outdoor fiber networks.
