Huawei Switch Optical Module Certification

Huawei-certified optical modules are required for reliable operation on Huawei switches, and certification can be verified via labels, commands, and software version checks.

Certification Overview

Huawei requires that all optical and copper modules used on its switches be certified to ensure transmission reliability and service stability. Non-certified modules may function but can trigger alarms, cause link instability, or affect overall network performance, and Huawei does not provide support for issues caused by uncertified modules .

Certification Timelines
  • 10GE and lower-speed modules: Certification started on July 1, 2013 .
  • 25GE, 40GE, and 100GE modules: Certification began on January 1, 2016 .
  • Modules delivered before these dates require confirmation from Huawei technical support to determine certification status .
How to Identify Certified Modules
  1. Label Check: Certified modules have “HUAWEI” printed on the label .
  2. Command Verification: On Huawei switches, run the following commands:
    • display elabel: The Manufactured field should show a date after the certification start date.
    • display version: The software version should be V200R001C00 or later for 10GE and lower, and V200R008 or later for 25GE/40GE/100GE modules.
    • display transceiver: The Vendor Name field should display HUAWEI .
  3. Special Cases: For high-speed or AOC cable-connected modules, the Vendor Name may show the original manufacturer. In such cases, contact Huawei technical support to confirm certification .
Supported Module Types

Huawei S series switches support a variety of optical module types, including: SFP, eSFP, SFP+, XFP, QSFP+, QSFP28, and CFP. Modules are classified by transmission rate: FE, GE, 10GE, 25GE, 40GE, and 100GE. All certified modules are hot-swappable and undergo comprehensive testing for plug/unplug functionality, optical power, signal quality, error tolerance, EMC, and environmental parameters .

Operational Considerations
  • Using non-certified modules may cause frequent link up/down events, alarms in port logs, and potential service instability .
  • Huawei does not provide support or warranty for issues caused by uncertified modules.
  • For third-party modules, alarms can often be suppressed, but reliability is not guaranteed .
Summary

To ensure network stability and compliance, always use Huawei-certified optical modules. Verify certification via labels, switch commands, and software versions, and consult Huawei technical support for modules with ambiguous certification status. Certified modules are tested for performance, compatibility, and environmental compliance, making them the recommended choice for all Huawei switch deployments .
