Fiber Optic Sensor Integrated Experimental Platform

A fiber optic sensor integrated experimental platform combines miniaturized optical sensors, real-time data processing, and functional integration for applications in environmental monitoring, chemical detection, and biomedical diagnostics.

Overview

Fiber optic sensor platforms are designed to measure physical, chemical, or biological parameters with high sensitivity and spatial resolution. These platforms integrate optical fibers with specialized sensing elements, enabling continuous monitoring along the fiber length or at specific points. Integration can include microfluidics, chemical receptors, or auxiliary interferometers, depending on the application, allowing compact, portable, and multifunctional experimental setups.

Key Features1.

Real-

Time Distributed Sensing: Advanced platforms, such as those using optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR), embed auxiliary interferometers directly into the main sensing path. This allows self-calibration of laser nonlinearity and reduces hardware complexity.

GP

U acceleration enables real-time signal processing, including phase extraction and frequency-shift calculations, supporting high-resolution measurements along long fibers. 2. Microfluidics Integration: Fiber-optic sensors can be combined with microfluidic devices to separate, enrich, and detect analytes on a single micro-device.

This integration improves portability, speed, and on-site operability, making it suitable for biological analysis, food safety, and environmental monitoring. Optical detection methods include Raman, UV-vis, fluorescence, and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). 3.

Chemical and Biological Detection: Platforms can incorporate sensor heads functionalized with specific receptors for detecting multiple chemicals simultaneously. The small sensor size and fiber connectivity allow precise integration into experimental setups and field applications, enabling portable and multiplexed detection. 4.

Miniaturization and Specialized Applications: Fiber-optic sensors can be manufactured with diameters as small as 80 microns, suitable for narrow cavities, micro bores, or minimally invasive biomedical diagnostics. They can measure temperature, strain, or spectroscopic properties without damaging the sample, and can be integrated into machines or endoscopic devices.

Applications

Environmental Monitoring: Distributed fiber sensing for temperature, strain, or chemical changes along pipelines or structures. Biomedical Diagnostics: Endoscopic or minimally invasive measurement of tissue morphology or spectroscopic properties. Industrial Measurement: Monitoring highly stressed components, micro-gears, or fuel injectors where traditional sensors cannot fit.

On-

Site Chemical Detection: Portable platforms for simultaneous detection of multiple analytes in field conditions.
